The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has confirmed that an investigation is underway. A technical team from Boeing may also join to help determine the cause of the crash.
What Might Have Gone Wrong?
Although it’s too early for a formal statement, experts believe the heavy fuel load for the long-haul international flight could have intensified the post-crash fire, making rescue efforts even more challenging.
Sources from DGCA added
The aircraft gave a MAYDAY call shortly after takeoff but then stopped responding to further communication. It crashed beyond the runway limits and was immediately engulfed in flames

The tragedy has also sent ripples through the global aviation sector. Boeing’s stock dropped by 7.8%, falling to $197.30 in premarket trading, as reported by Reuters.
Political leaders and citizens across the country have expressed shock and grief. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee posted an emotional note:
Stunned and profoundly shocked to know of the most tragic Air India plane crash at Ahmedabad today… I am praying to God at this moment for the safety and survival of all.
